Humble Beginning
I grew up in a neighborhood where opportunities felt scarce, and dreams were often put on hold due to the pressures of daily life. I was fortunate to have a teacher, Ms. Hilliman, who saw potential in me when no one else did. Her belief in my abilities was a turning point, and it gave me the strength to keep pushing forward despite the odds stacked against me.
Goal
Though I faced challenges, including a lack of resources and mentorship, I was determined to make something of myself. My passion for technology and AI drove me to pursue a path that would require immense dedication and perseverance. I knew that to succeed, I needed to upskill, build connections, and always believe in my vision for the future.
Challenge
The road wasn't easy. I struggled with self-doubt and external pressures, especially in the face of limited opportunities and financial strain. Yet, despite these obstacles, I never lost sight of my dreams. With a lot of hard work, I managed to take a year out from my studies to further hone my skills, develop mobile apps, and expand my network in the tech startup world.
How LEAD Curriculum Helped Her
The LEAD Curriculum was instrumental in shaping my mindset and trajectory. The leadership training, mentorship, and guidance I received were pivotal in helping me believe in myself and focus on my goals. One of the most valuable lessons I took away from LEAD was the mantra: “What my mind can conceive and my heart believes, I will achieve.” This powerful affirmation continues to guide me as I navigate my journey.
Current Success
Today, I am proud to be working as a Graduate Data Scientist at Lloyds Banking Group, with a focus on AI and emerging technologies. This year, I took a sabbatical to gain hands-on experience, build mobile apps, and launch a startup in the AI space. My journey from doubt to confidence, from struggle to success, is a testament to the power of resilience and the role the LEAD Curriculum played in shaping who I am today.
If you ever need advice or insight into the world of tech and AI, I’m always happy to help. Thank you for your continued support, Ms. Hilliman, for keeping me grounded and believing in my potential.
