Welcome to Challenge 3: Becoming an Example of Excellence
Congratulations! You've completed the first two challenges on your LEADership journey — understanding what excellence looks like and creating a plan to live it out. Those were the warm-up rounds. Now, you’re stepping into the real test of leadership: personal accountability.
This stage is where leadership becomes real — where ideas and intentions are put into consistent action. It’s not easy, but it’s where growth happens. To lead others, you must first lead yourself with courage, clarity, and commitment.
Personal accountability means taking full responsibility for your time, energy, and effort. It’s about showing up for yourself — especially when it’s hard. It’s about grit.
Psychologist Angela Duckworth defines grit as "working on something you care about so much that you're willing to stay loyal to it." That’s what this challenge is about: staying loyal to the pursuit of excellence. Even when it’s tough. Especially when it’s tough.
In this challenge, you’ll learn how to hold yourself to account in the fight for excellence.
You’ll explore how strong leaders stay grounded in purpose and build habits that push them toward their goals. Jordan Raynor, in his book Master of One, outlines five powerful steps that help fuel this journey:
-
Direct Apprenticeship – Learning from a mentor or role model
-
Indirect Apprenticeship – Growing through books, podcasts, and inspiring voices
-
Discipline – Sticking with one thing, even when it’s hard
-
Time Investment – Making room for what really matters
-
Purposeful Practice – Clear goals, deep focus, honest feedback, and learning through discomfort
You fight for excellence by building routines and sticking with them. By being disciplined. By showing up every day — not just when it’s easy. That’s how real progress is made.
Let’s get started. This is where leadership moves from theory to transformation. You’ve got this.
